Welcome to an essay in fear, this is the section of the site where you'll find upcoming pieces of writing on slasher (and general horror genre) cinema. There's plenty on it's way. I hope you enjoy it...
Tom Savini MY NIGHT WITH BRUCE CAMPBELL AND HIS SCREAMING BRAIN!
... the intrepid 'blue iris' reports from Exhumed Films' recent screening and premiere of Bruce Campbell's new horror comedy, THE MAN WITH THE SCREAMING BRAIN ... For this, and more on the fun packed night go here.
Tom Savini  WITCH BITCH: A FREEFORM REVIEW OF THE SEQUEL FROM HELL
... this doesn't really fit in anywhere else on the site so I thought - what the hell - stick it here. The following is a kind of freeform diatribe (without any major spoilers) which I tapped out in the early hours of the morning of the 28th October 2000, after seeing the sequel to probably the most talked about film of the last decade. It's fueled by alcohol and lack of sleep and I haven't polished the actual writing since I near passed out next the keyboard. For the ravings of a loon click here.
Tom Savini  TEENAGE WASTELAND: THE DYING ART OF STALK N' SLASH
... this is an article I wrote for the Winter 1999 issue of CHAOS magazine, where I took a look at one of my favourite subjects- the humble teen slasher movie. From John Carpenter's classic HALLOWEEN, through the golden age of the American slasher movie, to bargain bin straight-to-video hell, and the genre's re-birth with SCREAM (and subsequent repeated decline). The last few paragraphs are a little dated but it still, at last, gives a glimpse at what I really think of the nouveaux slashers. Find out here.
Tom Savini  BLAIR WITCH: THE HORROR BEYOND THE HYPERBOLE
... this is the second article I wrote for CHAOS magazine. Again it's possibly a little dated (as it was written on the eve of the UK cinema release of the film, last year), but I've decided to include it because it still provides an interesting snapshot of a time when genre fans were almost besides themselves with anticipation. Take a look here and decide for yourself, in retrospect, whether the hysteria was justified.
Tom Savini  MY NIGHT WITH TOM SAVINI
... 'the blue iris' fills us in on the night she got to meet, in the flesh, one of her all-time horror heroes- splatter fx master exraordinaire, Tom Savini. ... Tom was at the recent Exhumed Films' showing of his remake of the classic NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, at Harwan Theater in Mt. Ephraim. After the film he chatted to the crowd and answered questions on zombies, Argento and even THE RIPPER! ... For this, and more on the fun packed night go here.
